CALLUM MCCASH IS THE DEFINITION OF STRONG IN THE STORM

“This story is about my son,” Alex McCash said.
His son, Callum Paul McCash, was born on September 10, 2020, weighing just 1 pound 5 ounces.
“He was born 13 weeks early due to complications with his placenta that led to him having a condition known as Severe Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR),” Alex said. “He was outgrowing what the placenta could give him which stunted his growth and eventually led to him going into distress and needing to be delivered.”
After an emergency c-section, he was admitted to the NICU for the next 100 days where he would rest and grow until the day he would be able to come home.
“His strength and resilience during this time is what kept his mother and I going,” Alex said. “He was extubated after just one day and was breathing on his own with CPAP support. He endured countless IVs, blood transfusions, antibiotics, feeding tubes, central lines, hernia surgery, a bowel infection (NEC), and a brain bleed. We visited and held him every day. We learned to bathe him and swaddle him. Our lives revolving around the visiting hours of the NICU.”
Fast-forward to today, just six months later, and Callum is over 8 pounds.
“He smiles, giggles, and is a total champ in every way,” Alex said proudly. “He is thriving at home and shows us every day that he can tackle anything that comes and we can to.”
Alex’s entire family has STRONG IN THE STORM shirts to honor Callum.
“He has shown us that we are well past the limits we thought we had and we have plenty more in the tank to take on anything else that comes our way,” said Alex.
